China to curb its CO2 emissions by 2016

China, the world's biggest producer of carbon dioxide emissions, intends to set a cap on its greenhouse gas emissions for the first time. China is planning an absolute emissions cap for the period 2016-2020, and is also looking at emissions targets for 2030 and 2050.

Beijing to substitute four coal-burning heating plants

China has announced that it intends to replace four coal-burning heating plants in Beijing by the end of 2014, as it is trying to clean up pollution. The four plants and some 40 other similar projects would cost about 48 billion yuan and is likely to reduce sulphur dioxide emissions by 10,000 tonnes and could produce something like 7.2 GW of power fueled by natural gas.

Scotland's renewables industry displaces record amount of CO2 emissions

According to official statistics, Scotland has recorded the largest ever drop of CO2 emissions. Scotland's renewable electricity industry generated 14,825 GWh last year, displacing 10.3 million tones of CO2, a 24% increase if compared to the 8.3Mt of CO2 displaced in 2011.
