According to a report called 'Small and Medium Wind Market Report 2013', the UK installed about 3,743 small and medium wind turbines amounting 37.52MW capacity in 2012, posting a boost of 71% compared to 3,086 turbines totaling 21.92MW at the end of 2011.

The U.K. government and Electricite de France SA are close to announcing a great deal that would see France's EDF Energy building the country's first new nuclear power station since 1995. The project could have a total cost of more than 22.4 billion dollars and would be built on the west coast of England.

Italian-based Enel Green Power (EGP) has connected to the grid the Colibasi photovoltaic (PV) plant, sited in Giurgiu, with a total installed capacity of 6.5 MW bringing the EGP’s Romanian installed solar capacity up to about 26 MW.

The EBRD is providing a long-term loan of more than 69 million euros to PEPSA, a group of three special-purpose companies fully owned by Polish Energy Partners S.A, aiming to support the construction and operation of three wind farms in northern and north-eastern Poland. They are Gawłowice with a total capacity of 41.4 MW, Rajgród with 25MW and Skurpie 37 MW.

Global production of solar cells grew by 10% last year and Europe continues to be a leader in newly installed capacities representing almost 52% of the new worldwide installed capacity, while the total investment in renewable energy declined significantly in 2012 in comparison to a year before levels with a major decrease for both solar and wind energy investments.
