Daily (01.12.2021): Oil prices tumbled to their lowest levels since end of August amid Omicron fears

Crude oil prices tumbled on Tuesday following comments by Moderna's CEO Stephane Bancel that current COVID-19 vaccinations are unlikely to be as effective against the Omicron version. Hence, Brent crude for January sank by 3.9% to settle at $70.57 a barrel. U.S. WTI crude futures ended 5.4%, lower at $66.18 a barrel. Both contracts hit their lowest levels since August 23.

Daily (30.11.2021): Oil prices rebounded on Monday as Omicron fears receded

Crude oil prices rebounded on Monday, recouping some of Friday’s heavy losses as market participants turned their focus to the upcoming meeting among OPEC and Russia-led partners, offsetting Omicron worries. Hence, Brent crude increased by 1% to $73.44 a barrel. U.S. WTI crude soared by 2.6% to end at $69.95 a barrel.

Daily (29.11.2021): New Omicron variant of Covid-19 sent most of the energy prices lower on Friday

Oil prices plummeted on Friday, following reports of a new Covid-19 variant emerging in South Africa, which raised fears over the possible economic and demand impact. Consequently, Brent oil fell by 11.6% to $72.72 a barrel and WTI crude plunged by 12.7% to $68.15 a barrel.

Daily (26.11.20201): European carbon prices rallied to a new high above 74 EUR/t on Thursday due to speculative and compliance buying

Oil prices held steady on Thursday amid thin liquidity conditions due to US market closures for Thanksgiving. Reports that the U.S. continues to exert pressure on Russia to increase output had little effect on crude oil markets yesterday. Hence, Brent crude ended flat at $82.22 a barrel. U.S. WTI crude slipped by 0.4% to $78.10 a barrel.

Daily (25.11.2021): Carbon prices surged by over 5% on Wednesday, as Germany agreed on plans of setting the EU ETS at a minimum of 60€/tonne

Oil prices decreased slightly on Wednesday, pressured by a rise in US crude reserves. Nevertheless, losses were offset by low-volume trading ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. Hence, Brent oil and WTI crude edged 0.1% lower at $82.25 and $78.39 a barrel, respectively.
