GDF Suez wants to increase gas prices by 7% from October 1

According to the newspaper “Le Figaro”, GDF Suez has sent a request to the Regulatory Commission de l’Energie (CRE), to be allowed to increase its tariffs by 0.9 % to cover supply costs, with a further 6 % increase to offset a 2% cap imposed by the government in July.

Wind power could meet half of the world’s total power demand by 2030

According to some researchers, in about 20 years wind turbines could meet half of the world’s future energy demand with minimal environmental impact. Researchers calculated the potential of wind power worldwide, taking into account the effects that turbines would have on surface temperatures, water vapor and other climatic considerations.

Germany has installed 543 MW of Solar Power Capacity

According to the data received by the German Federal Network Agency, Germany added 543 MW of new photovoltaic capacity in July 2012, a little less than the 572 MW added in July 2011 , reaching a total of 4.9 GW of Germany’s total installed capacity for the first half of 2012

EU’s carbon emissions drop 2.5% in 2011

According to European Environment Agency EEA, in 2011 European greenhouse gas emissions fell 2.5%, despite higher coal consumption. Renewable energy consumption continued to augment in 2011, which contributed to the given decline in emissions, but it was mostly due to a milder winter in the most parts of the EU which resulted in lower heating demand from households and reduced natural gas consumption.
