Belgium to phase out all nuclear power plants by 2025

Belgium's government announced that the nuclear reactors Doel 1 and 2 will be closed in 2015 after 40 years of operation. However, the reactor Tihange 1, which will also celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2015, will prolong its life span by 2025 in order to avoid the risk of blackouts. The other four Belgian reactors are not immediately affected by the decisions, though they will reach 40 years in 2022 and 2025.
