Daily: European coal prices tumble on milder weather, weaker demand

Crude oil prices climbed more than $2 to touch one-month highs on Friday, buoyed by a considerable increase in gasoline and heating oil as supplies eased and refiners closed plants for maintenance. Meanwhile, Brent crude oil futures closed $2.38 higher at $109.57, the highest level since January 2. U.S. crude settled up $2.04 to $99.88 a barrel, hitting its highest point since December 27. Brent- WTI spread extended 34 cents to $9.69 a barrel.

Daily: European prompt power prices dragged down by warmer weather

Crude oil futures traded higher in Thursday, backed by optimistic U.S. economic data, an increase in U.S. gasoline futures and a strike at oil ports in France that blocked the oil hub Fos-Lavera, slashing supplies. Meanwhile, Brent crude traded nearly $1 higher above $107 a barrel, having hit a high of $107.30 earlier in the session following the ECB comments. U.S. crude rose 46 cents at $97.84 a barrel after increasing as high as $98.83.

Northern Ireland's first large-scale solar farm has obtained the go ahead

The largest solar farm in Northern Ireland has been given the go-ahead by the Government. The 27-acre solar farm located in Tullynaskeagh Road, Downpatrick will be connected to the nearby NIE sub-station and national grid, representing the first approval for such a large-scale solar farm in Northern Ireland. The solar project will have a total capacity of 5.1MW, capable of generating electricity to power more than 1,500 homes.

Wind power capacity increased worldwide in 2013

The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) has recently released its 2013 market statistics according to which installed wind capacity increased to more than 318 gigawatts in 2013, up from nearly 283 GW a year before. Global wind energy capacity has tripled over the past five years to reach a total of 318,137 MW. At the same time as wind capacity increased 12.4% last year, wind installations slowed, reaching about 35.5 GW, almost 10 GW less in comparison to a year earlier, mostly due to a drop in the United States.
