China: huge shale gas well was discovered

China has announced last week that its top refiner Sinopec Corp has discovered a shale gas well in the Guizhou Province in the southwestern part of the country. Located at a depth of 4,417 metres, the well is thought to be the deepest discovery and is likely to have a maximum daily output of 105,000 cubic meters, while the nation’s Ministry of Land and Resources said the gas well is expected to have an average daily output of 43,000 cubic metres.

Russia to increase its oil and gas production

Deputy Energy Minister, Kirill Molodtsov, declared that Russia is likely to increase its oil production by 0.3% to 525 million tons in 2014, about 10.54 million barrels per day, which could be the highest level Russia has attained since the collapse of the Soviet Union. The significant growth was attributed to changes in tax law, which has stimulated development of new fields and hard-to-recover reserves.
