French energy law might shut down third of EDF

France's energy transition law could oblige state-controlled utility EDF to shut down around a third of its 58 nuclear reactors by 2025, the state audit office declared in its yearly report on Wednesday. The Cour des Comptes predicts that the projected reduction of the share of nuclear in French energy output to 50 percent by 2025 from over 75 percent now might lead to the closure of 17 to 20 reactors if electricity consumption and exports stay at present levels.

Daily: UK day-ahead gas prices tumble on UK-Belgium gas pipeline Interconnector closure

Crude oil prices recovered on Tuesday, spurred by expectations of a sixth consecutive weekly decline in U.S. crude supplies and dollar depreciation. The price of light sweet crude (WTI) for delivery in July rose $2, or 3.4%, to settle at $60.14 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude boosted $2.19, or 3.5%, to close at $64.88 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.

Daily: Brent crude slumps amid strong OPEC oil production

Brent crude slipped on signs of strong OPEC oil production, while U.S. crude also declined on Thursday, going below $98 a barrel, reaching the weakest level since March amid news of an eventual closure for indefinite period at a Kansas oil refinery. Brent crude for September delivery closed down 49 cents at $106.02 a barrel, having declining more than 6 percent in July, on track to hit its biggest monthly fall since April 2013. U.S. crude futures for September delivery slipped $2.10 to settle at $98.17 a barrel, on course for a monthly drop of nearly 7 percent, its largest since May 2012.

Eni Italian workers face a strike over plants closure

Thousands of workers (about 90%) of the Italian multinational oil and gas company Eni joined to a strike call on Tuesday in an effort to save the jobs put at risk by the threatened closure or converting of some oil refiners owned by the Italian giant.
