Centrica and Qatar sign a strategic alliance on oil and gas projects

The British energy company, Centrica, the owner of British Gas and the state-run oil company Qatar Petroleum International (QPI) have recently teamed up in an effort to collaborate on pursuing international energy investments. On Monday they signed a memorandum of understanding to invest in a set of new or existing oil and gas projects. The deal includes investments in liquefied natural gas, gas power turbines, and gas storage.

Carbon trading schemes around the world

Companies and governments around the world are turning to emissions trading as a weapon to fight climate change and join a global carbon market worth $142 billion last year. Under cap-and-trade schemes, companies or countries face a carbon limit. If they exceed the limit they can buy allowances from others. They can also buy carbon offsets from outside projects which avoid greenhouse gas emissions, often from developing countries. Following is a list of established schemes.

EU supports renewable projects in Arab deserts

The two biggest European consortiums, the German Deserted Industry Initiative (DII) and the French energy giant, Medgrid, focused their attention Thursday on the development of an ambitious renewable energy project in Arab deserts which consequently will provide power to customers in Europe, North Africa and in the Middle East.
