UK: renewable generation increased more than 50% in the second quarter of 2013

According to figures offered by DECC in the second quarter of this year renewables output in UK increased 56% to 12.8 TWh. Due to increased capacity and high wind speeds wind production augmented by 62%, hydro was up almost 30% while solar, wave and tidal registered a 22% increase.

France to build a € 200 million euro pilot marine project

Enel investments in Spain’s energy sector at risk

Enel, Europe's second utility in terms of installed capacity, has announced recently that its future funds in Spain’s energy sector could be at risk unless the energy reform was revised. The Spanish government imposed a 7% levy on all incomes from power generation at the beginning of 2013, and approved a second wave of reforms in July.

Daily: French spot power prices up on prolonged heat wave

Brent crude pared gains on Thursday as the optimism for more stimulus from the U.S. Federal Reserve faded. Meanwhile, Brent crude for October delivery increased 10 cents to settle at $115.01 a barrel, having fluctuating from $114.43 to $116.38. It has recovered from a low of $88.49 recorded on June 22 after retreating from the 2012 high at $128.40 hit on March 1. U.S. October crude traded 99 cents down to settle at $96.27 a barrel, after reaching $98.29, the highest level since May 4. In the same time, U.S. crude has recovered after slipping below $78 a barrel in late June.

UK launches a marine energy contest

Britain’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has announced a £20 million contest for two large scale marine energy demonstration projects, inviting developers to submit until June 1 proposals for new wave and tidal arrays.
