China’s wind power capacity reached a new record

China’s largest power grid operator, State Grid Corporation, has announced that nation’s on-grid wind power capacity has increased considerably, reaching 50.26 GW, or a yearly growth of 87% over the past six years and will continue to rise to 100 GW by 2015 and 200 GW by 2020. Wind farms are the second largest contributor to renewable energy capacity after hydropower.

IEA: Renewable power will grow by 40% in next 5 years

According to a new report released by the International Energy Association (IEA), solar, wind, hydropower and other renewable sources will boost to more than 40%, to about 6,400 TWh, and the emerging markets will become the main driver of the increase in renewable power capacity over the next five years.

Pakistan hydro project to receive $850m from the World Bank

The Tarbela 4th Extension hydropower project in Pakistan will receive 850 million dollars from the World Bank. By completing the project, the generation capacity of Tarbela Power Station will achieve 4,888 MW. It is expected to be completed in four years and will generate 1,410 MW of electricity.

EBRD loans 45 million euros to Serbian hydropower

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development approved a 45 million euros loan for the Serbian state-owned company, Elecktroprivreda Srbije (EPS), which will be allotted for building seven new hydropower plants and for modernizing 15 existing small hydropower ones.
