Europe installed two-thirds of worldwide solar panel power in 2011

According to a report from the European Commission, two-thirds of worldwide solar panels installations in 2011 were in Europe, totaling 18.5 GW. The photovoltaic industry in Europe has increased by an average of over 40% per year in the last 10 years, at the same time as production costs have dropped by around 60%. Its overall PV capacity totaled 52 GW.

UK: Good Energy to build Britain’s biggest solar farm

UK’s energy group, Good Energy, would build the UK’s biggest solar farm which will cover 224 acres by putting 135,000 solar panels on farmland in the Cornish countryside. It will cover an area six times bigger than the project at Marley Thatch Farm, in Devon, approved last month, which will cover 37 acres and have 28,000 photovoltaic panels.

U.S solar hike: Installations jump 85% in first quarter 2012

U.S. installed 506 megawatts of solar panels in the first quarter of 2012, up 85 percent than the same period last year and the second-highest quarter of installations ever, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association.

U.S. imposes high antidumping tariffs on Chinese solar panels

The U.S. Commerce Department (DOC) announced the imposition of antidumping tariffs of more than 31% to 250% on Chinese solar panels, after determining that exporters sold product in the US below its production costs. This move aims to protect US domestic solar firms.
