Daily: European power prices tumble on stronger wind output in Germany

Brent and WTI crude futures boosted on Thursday spurred by upbeat economic data from the United States after an ample supply outlook and as Chinese economic figures had earlier pressured prices. Brent crude for October delivery on Thursday climbed 35 cents to settle at $102.63, up from its session low of $101.21. U.S. crude for October delivery increased 51 cents to close at $93.96 a barrel, reversing earlier losses.

Daily: British natural gas prices increase on nuclear plant outages, weak power output

Crude oil prices dropped more than $2 a barrel on both sides of the Atlantic on Thursday, dragged down by bearish economic data insinuating weakening oil demand and solid supplies. Brent crude for delivery in September closed down $2.27 at $102.01 after plunging to a low of $101.92, the lowest level since July 2013. Brent crude for October delivery fell $2.99 to settle at $102.07.

UK wind power hits a new record in August

This past Sunday night, at about 10 pm local time, the UK’s wind energy industry set a fresh hourly output record, delivering an average of 5 GW of power over the hour and covering 17 per cent of national demand, according to trade association RenewableUK.
