Coal generates 35% of UK’s electricity

Coal still plays an important role in UK’s electricity generation, as in the third quarter of this year, coal generated about 35 % of the UK's electricity, according to Government figures, at the same time as gas provided 28 %of electricity, and nuclear 22 %, while renewable accounted just under 12%.

Daily: European coal prices slip as German power hits 2.5-year low

Brent and U.S. crude oil futures declined for a third consecutive day in choppy trading on Wednesday, dragged down by uncertainty about U.S. budget negotiations aimed prevent tax increases and spending cuts. Meanwhile, Brent January crude eased by 36 cents, or 0.33 percent, to settle at $109.51 a barrel, having traded from $108.44 to $110.17 and U.S. January crude dropped 69 cents, or 0.79 percent, to settle at $86.49 a barrel, having traded from $85.36 to $87.34.

China: Renewable energy accounts less than 1% in the most polluting country of the world

Even if China is the world's greatest carbon-emitting nation, with about 70 % of China's energy which is generated from coal, hydropower and nuclear accounts 29.3% of the remaining output, while renewable energy, accounts less than 1%, at 0.7%.
