Crude oil futures rose for a third straight session on Tuesday, driven by tumbling dollar, hopes of a new economic stimulus package in the U.S. and expectations that U.S. stockpiles drop again. Hence, Brent crude added 28 cents, or 0.6%, to settle at $44.43 a barrel, its highest close since March 6 At the same time, U.S. WTI crude rose by 69 cents, or 1.7%, to end at $41.70, its highest settlement since July 21.

Daily (16.07.2020): A sharp drop in U.S crude stocks boosted oil prices by over 2% on Wednesday

Oil prices added momentum on Wednesday, driven by a sharp decrease in U.S crude stocks. However, OPEC’s and its oil-producing allies plan to boost supply from August to meet an expected rebound in demand limited the gain. In this context, the International benchmark Brent crude settled 2.1% higher at $28.85 a barrel. Similarly, WTI, the U.S. benchmark, rose by 2.3%, or 91 cents, to settle at $41.20 a barrel.

Crude oil futures fell sharply on Wednesday as new coronavirus cases in Germany and across several U.S. states is threatening oil recovery. Moreover, the record increase in U.S. crude inventories added further pressure on oil markets. Hence, Brent crude dived by $2.32, or 5.4%, to settle at $40.31 a barrel. Crude oil futures surged on Thursday after the IEA unveiled a tightening supply picture in the second half of 2020. Moreover, an unexpected drop in U.S. crude stocks also lent support to prices. Hence, Brent crude soared by $1.94, or 6.7%, to settle at $31.13 a barrel, while the U.S. WTI crude rallied by $2.27, or 9%, to end at $27.56 a barrel.
