Crude oil prices diverged on Monday, with U.S. WTI crude remaining anchored near $40 a barrel as players got caught between the continued surge in U.S. coronavirus cases and news indicating progress in COVID-19 vaccine. Brent crude for September delivery added 0.3%, to settle at $43.28 a barrel, supported by hopes that EU leaders will agree on a recovery fund. Meanwhile, U.S. WTI crude declined by 0.7%, to end at $40.29 a barrel.

Daily (07.07.2020): The German Cal’21 power climbed to a 20-week high on Monday, keeping the pace with EUAs above 30 Eur

Crude oil futures edged higher on Monday, supported by a string of data showing an economic recovery across the globe and amid improving OPEC+ compliance. However, oil continued to be pressured by the surging coronavirus cases. Hence, Brent crude from September delivery rose by 0.7%, or 30 cents, to settle at $43.10 a barrel. At the same time, U.S. WTI crude settled at $40.63 a barrel, up 1% day-on-day.

Daily (29.06.2020): Brent and WTI dropped by 2.8% and 3.2% for the week as the coronavirus spread is likely to cloud the demand outlook

Crude oil futures turned bearish on Friday as the spread of coronavirus in the U.S. and China are expected to hurt demand recovery. However, a record build-up in U.S. crude inventories added further pressure on the WTI crude price. Hence, Brent crude steadied at $41.02 a barrel. At the same time, U.S. WTI crude fell by 23 cents, or 0.6%, to settle at $38.49 per barrel. For the week, Brent dropped by 2.8%, while WTI crude shed by 3.2%.

Daily (25.06.2020): Oil prices fell sharply by over 5% on Wednesday amid surging coronavirus cases and a record increase in U.S. crude stocks

Crude oil futures fell sharply on Wednesday as new coronavirus cases in Germany and across several U.S. states is threatening oil recovery. Moreover, the record increase in U.S. crude inventories added further pressure on oil markets. Hence, Brent crude dived by $2.32, or 5.4%, to settle at $40.31 a barrel. At the same time, U.S. WTI crude ended at $38.01 a barrel, sinking by $2.36, or 5.8%.

Daily (22.06.2020): The German Cal'21 power price reached 40€ on Friday for the first time since March amid stronger oil and coal prices

Crude oil futures gained ground on Friday amid encouraging signs of demand recovery as OPEC and its allies are fully committed to cut production. Hence, Brent crude for August delivery rose by 68 cents, or 1.6%, to settle a barrel at $42.19 a barrel. At the same time, U.S. WTI crude for July delivery soared by 91 cents, or 2.3%, to end $39.75 a barrel. For the week, Brent crude rallied by 8.9%, while WTI jumped by 9.6%.
