Poland: a coal-fired unit of about $1 billion to be built by Hitachi-led consortium

Hitachi-led consortium won a contract of about 3.25 billion zlotys ($1 billion dollars) from Poland’s main utility group PGE to build a coal-fired unit of a capacity of 430-450 MW, according to a member of the conglomerate. The unit is likely to be constructed at PGE’s Turow plant in south-eastern Poland.

Italy: shutdown of 2 Vado Ligure coal units

Tirreno Power, an Italian electricity generation company, owned 50% by France’s GDF Suez, has received an order from an Italian judge to shutdown two coal-fired units at its Vado Ligure plant because of ecological concerns, as stated by a spokesman for the Italian firm.
