Western Companies Abandon Russia-Led Nord Stream 2 Project

The U.S. imposed on Tuesday sanctions on the Russian pipe-laying vessel that was expected to complete the construction of the gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, while several Western companies are said to have abandoned links to the project for fear of sanctions.

Daily (06.01.2020): Oil prices surged by about 5% on Tuesday amid OPEC output deal, Iran tensions

Crude oil futures rallied on Tuesday, after OPEC+ reached an agreement on production curbs starting in February, with Saudi Arabia voluntarily taking on a larger reduction. Continuing tensions over Iran’s seizure of a South Korean vessel brought further support to oil prices. Hence, Brent crude jumped by $2.51, or 4.9%, to settle at $53.60 a barrel. Meanwhile, U.S. WTI crude surged by $2.31, or 4.9%, to close at $49.93 a barrel.

India's coal import drops 19 per cent to 117 million tonnes during April-October this fiscal

India had imported 143.63 MT of coal during the corresponding period of FY 2019-20, according to a provisional compilation by mjunction services, based on monitoring of vessels' positions and data received from shipping companies.

Norway plans heavy oil ban around Svalbard

The Norwegian government has announced plans to ban heavy fuel oil (HFO), a dirty marine fuel that propels most vessels, around its Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. The effort comes as UN efforts have been deemed too slow.
