Crude oil futures soared on Monday amid inconclusive nuclear talks between world powers and Iran - which has elected a new hardline president - allaying prospects for a swift revival of the Islamic Republic’s crude exports. Hence, Brent crude increased by 1.9% to settle at $74.90 a barrel. Meanwhile, U.S. WTI crude surged by 2.8% to end at $73.66 a barrel.

Although the UK currently imports around 7% of its electricity from Europe, the tables are going to be turned soon, partly due to the on-going establishment of new links to the continent. Aiming to quadruple offshore wind capacity this decade, the UK could have excess power to send through those transmission lines. Consequently, the UK could become a net energy exporter to Europe in five years.

Crude oil prices closed higher on Friday, supported by disruptions in Libyan supply. A state of force majeure on one of the main oil terminals in Libya was declared by the NOC, thus interrupting the country’s exports. As a result, Brent crude increased by 1.1% to $66.11 a barrel and WTI oil rose by 1.2% to $62.14 a barrel.
