Germany’s largest utility announced its intent not to build new power capacity based on coal or gas in Western Europe at least until 2020 because the market seems to become oversupplied until the last remaining German nuclear reactors will be shut down permanently, while in Eastern and Southern Europe the situation is different.

Russia’s Novatek signed long-term gas contract with Germany’s E.On

Russia's largest independent gas producer Novatek announced it has signed a $22.04 billion contract with E.ON Russia to supply gas to the German company’s power plants in Russia until the end of 2027.

Coal consumption in Germany is steadily increasing

Following the decision of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel to phase out nuclear energy and switch to cleaner energy generation, coal consumption has been steadily increasing. A 2,200 MW lignite-fired power plant, near Cologne, started its activity last week as part of the country’s energy policy.

Vestas to build its first V100 turbines in Italy

Vestas will build its first project consisting of 11 units of the V100 wind turbine in Tuscany, for the Santa Luce Wind Power Plant. The project is the first on Italian soil to use the V100 and includes delivery, transportation, installation and commissioning of turbines.
