New information about the efficiency of smaller quantum dots was provided by a research team from the United States-based National Science Foundation. According to them, the quantum dot solar cells are capable to produce more electricity from the same amount of absorbed light.

The Micro and Nanotechnology Research Group of the Spanish Universitata Politecnica de Catalunya has realized high efficient photovoltaic cells with conversion efficiency of 20.5 percent. The new type of solar panels of 4.8 m² would produce daily an average of about 4 kWh enough to cover the energy demand of a family.
