Poll: 64% of Swiss consider nuclear power plants essential

Over 60 percent of Swiss consider nuclear energy as a key part of Switzerland's energy mix and more consultation is required about its projected exit, with three-quarters saying the country’s nuclear stations are safe, according to the latest poll of attitudes performed by market research company DemoScope on behalf of Swiss nuclear trade organization Swissnuclear.

Algeria is likely to increase oil and gas production

Algeria is aiming to increase its oil and natural gas production by 50% and 100 percent respectively within 10 years helped by major exploration success last year and by shale gas which would have an important role to achieve the ambitious plan. The minister projected Algeria's recoverable reserves at between 25 and 30 trillion cubic feet.

Eolus and Google have signed a new contract for a new wind farm

Google has signed a new agreement to buy all electricity generated from four winds farm in southern Sweden. The project will consist of 29 turbines, having a total capacity of 59 MW, and is likely to be fully operational by 2015. Eolus and Google have announced that planning permission has been granted.

E.ON has started construction works of Amrumbank West wind farm

German utility company E.ON has started the construction of the Amrumbank West wind farm, a 288MW wind project in the North Sea, which will consist of 80 turbines, and should be enough to power around 300,000 households, cutting more than 740,000 metric tons of carbon emissions every year. The first foundation has been installed at the site, 37 kilometres off the island of Heligoland.
