UK solar installations reached 1.3 GW due to drastic cuts in FiT

The Department of Energy and Climate Change has released new figures according to which a total capacity of 1.3 GW of solar installations was installed nationally at the end of September 2012. The severe cuts in feed-in tariffs for solar power in the UK reduced installations by almost 60 % in April, leaving the government far behind from its goal of 22 GW of PV by 2020.

Germany to reform the renewable energy subsidy system

Europe installed two-thirds of worldwide solar panel power in 2011

According to a report from the European Commission, two-thirds of worldwide solar panels installations in 2011 were in Europe, totaling 18.5 GW. The photovoltaic industry in Europe has increased by an average of over 40% per year in the last 10 years, at the same time as production costs have dropped by around 60%. Its overall PV capacity totaled 52 GW.

A new PV plant completed in Italy

At the end of August, Martifer Solar has finished the construction of a photovoltaic installation on the rooftop of Ariston Thermo factory in Resana, Italy. The project was developed by Novapower, a Merloni Group Holding subsidiary which commissioned to Martifer Solar the turnkey building and the maintenance of the plant. The project was realized due to the financing of BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions.

USA to become third largest photovoltaic market in 2012

The U.S. photovoltaic market registered a considerably increase in the first six months of 2012 reaching 1.7 GW and it is expected that will reach roughly 4.3 GW for all the 2012, according to IMS Research. Also IMS revealed that the U.S. market has grown by more than 120%, while in the same period installations reached only 750 MW last year.
