Investments in green energy decreased in 2012 worldwide after hitting record levels in 2011, according to some data released by Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF). Investments tumbled mainly due to the debt crisis in the U.S. and Europe and as governments slashed incentives for technologies ranging from wind turbines to solar power and biomass.

China’s renewable energy capacity installation growth has been extraordinary, considering that its growth has been higher than the global average. The global average growth of wind energy capacity over the last 10 years registered only 25%, while China’s wind energy capacity increased at an annual average rate of 60%.

Crude oil was down on Thursday on concerns about looming U.S. budget discussions and signs of increasing anxiety by the U.S. Federal Reserve about buying bonds to spur economic growth. The U.S. budget crisis was under strongly surveillance by the oil markets , as well as steady problems in the euro zone, for signs over a possible decrease in fuel demand.

The USA Congress has extended the Production Tax Credit (PTC) for a year, which will allow continued growth of the energy source that installed the most new electrical generating capacity in America last year. The new version of the tax will cover all the projects that start construction in 2013. After being approved by the Senate and the House it is now expected to be rapidly signed into law by the President Obama, who always supported the wind energy tax credits during the process.
