Daily: European spot electricity prices diverge, with German contract up amid lower winds forecasts

Crude oil prices ended little changed on Thursday after hesitating the whole session between the negative influence of a strengthening dollar and the persistent speculation of a consequent decrease of the supply following the OPEC’s agreements. Brent futures for February delivery rose by 12 cents, or 0.2 percent, to settle at $54.02 per barrel, while U.S. crude lost 14 cents, or 0.3 percent, to settle at $50.90, its lowest level in a week.

Daily: Crude oil rocketed over 10% after OPEC’s decision to cut production

Crude oil prices surged over 10 percent on Wednesday to over $50 a barrel and its highest in a month as some of the world’s biggest producers agreed to limit production for the first time since 2008 in a bid to prop up prices. Yesterday, OPEC decided to slash production from January by around 1.2 million barrels per day (bpd), or over 3 percent, to 32.5 million bpd. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures for January delivery rose by $4.21 to close at $49.44 a barrel, posting a 9.6 percent gain. They earlier rallied 10 percent, the largest one-day hike since February. Brent crude futures for January delivery climbed $4.09 a barrel or 8.82 percent to end at $50.47 a barrel. The contract expires Wednesday, and the February contract soared 8.9 percent to $51.51.

Daily: WTI crude settle below $50 for the first time in a week as OPEC plan is expected to fail

Crude oil prices lost ground on Tuesday, with WTI ending below $50 a barrel for the first time in just a week, dragged down by the possibility that OPEC ‘s plan to slash output will fail after Iraq showed unwillingness to participate in the proposed deal. WTI crude for December delivery crude lost 56 cents, or 1.1%, to end at $49.96 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. That was the lowest settlement and first finish below $50 since October 17. Brent crude for December delivery fell 67 cents, or 1.3%, to settle at $50.79 a barrel on London’s ICE.
