DECC: UK renewable electricity production up 33% in 2011

The UK’s electricity production from renewable sources jumped by 33% in 2011, mainly due to a hike in solar photovoltaic capacity increasing by 12 times, a trebling of biomass capacity, and a 37% jump in offshore wind capacity, according to a recent report released by the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC).

Centrica to invest £1.4billion in UK gas project

Centrica announced it will continue investing £1.4 billion in the Cygnus gas project, one of the North Sea’s biggest discoveries. The company said it would spend the money on its Cygnus gas field in -partnership with GDF Suez of France, creating up to 4,000 new jobs, and adding £ 600 million in tax revenues for the public purse.

Germany: First in Europe in offshore wind growth

According to the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA), Siemens dominated the offshore wind turbine market during the first six month of 2012, installing 108 wind turbines across Europe. Siemens and RePower were most active in places like UK and Europe, installing 422 MW of wind turbines.
