New wind farms to replace phased-out nuclear power in Germany
Once the German announced their decision to phase out the country’s nuclear power by 2022, it was clear that one-quarter of the country’s generation power has to be replaced with alternative energy sources. According to a recently proposed “10 Point Immediate Action Program” by the German Environment Ministry, the avoided nuclear power will be substituted with offshore wind power which is expected to be strengthened by an incentive system.

India to boost its solar power industry
The solar industry is seen as a fast growing industry in India, due to the country’s favorable geographical position and high population density. The Indian Government recently introduced a supportive framework for solar power which provides that the development of solar power will constitute a new alternative in supplying the country with electricity, however almost half of the Indian households are not connected to the electricity network.

World’s largest wind farm to be completed in UK
Reef Subsea AS, an international cost-effective company providing subsea services for developers of oil & gas and renewable projects, announced it has signed a contract for completion of an offshore wind farm set in the Suffolk coast of the UK, Greater Gabbard, that will become the world’s largest offshore wind farm.

European PV capacity to exceed 21 GW in 2011
In 2011, the photovoltaic market is predicted to add more than 21 GW of new PV capacity, increasing by around 14% as compared to 2010. As shown in the latest report revealed by IMS Research, prices for electricity generated from solar farms will go down enough to boost demand for other renewable sectors, mainly in Germany.
