The impasse over the U.S. debt ceiling also began to worry markets, further weighing on prices. Thus, Brent crude lost 1.3% to settle at $76.41 a barrel. WTI crude dropped by around 1.6% to $72.56 a barrel.

German energy regulator expects lower power reserve needs this winter
Germany's energy regulator said on Friday it has asked for less reserve power capacity to avoid supply shortfalls in the coming winter than it did last year, citing increased capacities reactivated when Russia stopped gas flows last year.
