Petrofac, a British provider of integrated facilities services to the oil, gas and energy production and processing industries, said its Offshore Engineering & Operations, or OE&O, business has been awarded a contract renewal by Marathon Oil, a United States-based oil and natural gas exploration and production company.

Major gas discovery in Romania
Petrom, the biggest oil and gas producer in Romania, has reported the successful result of the exploration well 4539 Totea. The well, drilled following a recent 3D seismic program to a depth of 3600 meters in the Oltenia region of south-western Romania, is likely to contain substantial gas resources.

Exxon to make new oil and gas discoveries in the Gulf of Mexico
Two big oil and a natural gas discoveries were made in the Gulf of Mexico, emphasizing again the importance of this basin for the US crude oil production. Previously, oil and gas exploration operations were frozen by the U.S. government following a blowout at the BP Macondo well last year.

Russian government seeks offshore oil spill funds
The Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin proposed on Wednesday a bill that would require the Russian companies engaged in the exploration of crude seeking to obtain offshore extraction licenses, to set apart financial reserves which could be used in case of an eventual oil spill.

Spain’s Repsol to create a joint venture with Russia’s Alliance Oil Company
The Spanish energy company, Repsol signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enter in a joint venture with the Moscow-based Alliance Oil Company Ltd to jointly seek for growth opportunities in exploration and production in the Russian Federation.
