More funding to progress UK nuclear-generated hydrogen project

An EDF-led consortium has been awarded UK government funding to further develop plans to use heat and electricity from Heysham 2 to create hydrogen for use in the production of asphalt and cement. Earlier this year, a feasibility study demonstrated the significant benefit the project would bring in proving how nuclear could power hydrogen electrolysis.

EUR 195M guarantee fund approved for deep geothermal projects in France

The European Commission has approved under EU state aid rules a French aid scheme to set up a guarantee fund for deep geothermal operations. The fund will be implemented for a period of 10 years and may provide compensation for deep geothermal projects, providing some protection against the risk linked to the high degree of uncertainty of deep geothermal resources during drilling.

On Wednesday, oil prices slightly declined as they responded to a smaller-than-expected decrease in US oil reserves and the expectation of an upcoming rate hike by the Federal Reserve. Thus, WTI crude settled at $78.78, down by 1% day-on-day, while Brent crude fell by about 1% to reach $82.92 a barrel.
