China reached a new solar record in 2013

Chinese developers installed a record 12 GW of solar panels throughout the country in 2013, almost matching the total amount of solar power in operation in the United States, and it is likely that in 2014 it will exceed that record reaching 14GW of additional PV capacity. Until now, no one has ever added more than 8GW of solar power in a single year previous to 2013, and China’s record exceeded even the most optimistic estimates of a year ago.

Npower: British energy bills set to rocket by more than £200 by 2020

British energy bills are expected to increase over £200 by 2020, unless energy efficiency measures are embraced, driven by costs of government green policies, according to a controversial report recently released by the energy supply Npower. It reiterated that households should take more initiatives to insulate their homes, cutting in such a way the bill to £1,240.

Bhlaraidh wind farm obtained the go-ahead

The Scottish government has recently granted planning consent for the proposed Bhlaraidh wind farm near Invermoriston in the Highlands. The wind farm is to have a total of 32 turbines, with a generating capacity of up to 108 MW, enough to power about 50,900 homes in the area, having a total cost of about 166.3 million pounds.

Daily: Brent crude slips below $106 per barrel on China figures, Iran nuclear deal

Brent crude dropped below $106 per barrel on Monday, dragged down by figures showing China's oil demand growth eased out further in 2013 and by news Iran had started implementing a nuclear deal with world powers, which could eventually enable more oil exports.
