Spain envisages 2.7 billion euro cuts in subsidies

Spain's government intends to cut subsidies for renewable-energy suppliers and increase electricity bills as part of widespread reforms to its energy policy. The government had announced a series of actions intended at reducing the country’s tariff deficit, which amount to more than 26 billion euro, and has been accumulated as a result of a discrepancy between generating costs and electricity prices for consumers for a long period.

Enel investments in Spain’s energy sector at risk

Enel, Europe's second utility in terms of installed capacity, has announced recently that its future funds in Spain’s energy sector could be at risk unless the energy reform was revised. The Spanish government imposed a 7% levy on all incomes from power generation at the beginning of 2013, and approved a second wave of reforms in July.

Italian wind energy sector

In Italy the wind capacity installed has registered a great success due to government incentives offered to the sector, achieving the record value of 8,144 MW in 2012, and positioning itself 6th below countries as China, US, Germany, Spain and India. According to the TSO, total wind capacity could reach 9,600 MW by the end of this year.
