Turkey started operations for shale gas extraction

Turkey has started hydraulic fracturing operations to extract shale gas in the Thracian and southeastern Anatolian regions. Turkey is aiming to expand the employ of horizontal drilling to exploit the estimated 163 trillion cubic feet of reserves that have been detected in the country.

Rosneft to pursue expansion in gas market with $1.8 billion acquisition

Enel SpA, the Italian electric utility company, the second-largest in Europe by market capitalization, unveiled that it will sell its 40% stake in Arctic Russia BV, a joint venture with Eni that owns 49% of SeverEnergia. Enel will receive 1.8 billion USD from Rosneft and the completion of transaction is subject to regulatory and other approvals.

Ukrainian diversification of natural gas supplies

Since 2011 Ukraine is trying to raise natural gas production levels in the Black Sea from 1 bcm in 2011 to 3 billion cubic meters in 2015.In 2012 the Black Sea production reached 1.2 bcm and is predicted to rise to 1.65 bcm in 2013.Its total gas reserves have been estimated at 5.4 trillion cubic meters.

EPA sets emission limits on new power plants

The US Environmental Protection Agency has recently proposed to limit carbon dioxide emissions from new power plants. Power plants are the largest concentrated source of emissions in the US, together accounting for roughly one-third of all domestic greenhouse gas emissions.

French Total to quit Shtokman gas project

French oil giant Total is envisaging selling its 25 percent stake in the Shtokman Development AG to Russian energy major Gazprom, becoming the last partner to exit from the gas project in the Barents Sea.
