EC: No plans to impose a ban for shale gas in Europe
Janez Potocnik , the European Commissioner for the Environment, has announced recently that there were no plans to impose a blanket ban on hydraulic fracturing, but it also added that the EC will lay out rules to address environmental concerns by the end of the year

Germany: Coal suppresses natural gas, wind output
It seems that Germany’s energy portfolio is not as green as thought. The share of coal in Germany’s electricity mix has soared to 52% in the first-half of 2013, suppressing the output from natural gas and wind turbines, according to data released by research organization Fraunhofer Institute (ISE).

Daily: Crude oil jumps on U.S. stockpiles drop
Brent crude increased on Wednesday, while gasoline prices dropped slightly after U.S. EIA reported a 6.9 million barrel decrease in American crude stockpiles and larger-than-expected increases in gasoline inventories. Brent crude rose 47 cents to settle at $108.61 a barrel. Meanwhile, WTI added 48 cents to settle at $106.48 a barrel.

Daily: EU carbon allowances at highest level since supply vote
Brent crude rose on Tuesday as U.S. gasoline prices jumped to four-month highs following refinery problems during summer driving season and higher prices for ethanol credits. Meanwhile, Brent crude for August delivery edged up 31 cents to settle at $109.40 a barrel, the highest settlement since April 2. In the same time, U.S. crude oil settled down 32 cents at $106.00 a barrel, while the front month contract has been trading at or above 70 since July 5.

The EIB has granted Spain a €475m loan for power grid upgrade
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has granted to Spain’s Gas Natural Fenosa a 475 million euro loan for upgrading its power grid. The loan have the objective to support utility firm Gas Natural Fenosa’s four-year programme of investment in upgrading and expanding the overhead distribution network, laying underground cables and building substations.
