About 87 percent of the world's energy consumption is currently based on fossil fuels and is expected that they will continue that trend, accounting for 80% of all energy supply by 2040.

Sweden prefers renewables to nuclear

Recently Sweden's energy minister, Anna-Karin Hatt, has announced that the government will not subsidize new nuclear power plants, favoring renewable investments. Electricity production in Sweden is dominated by nuclear power and renewables, which currently make about equal contributions to energy production- about 40%.

Poland: coal demand could be reduced by 50% by 2030

Poland is one of the fastest-growing economies in the European Union and the power that drives it comes from the dirtiest of fossil fuels- coal. But, according to a new study made by researchers in Germany and Poland, renewable energy groups and environmental group Greenpeace, Poland could reduce by almost 50% its demand for coal by 2030 shifting to wind, solar, hydro, biomass and geothermal energies.

Germany to build its longest power line to transport surplus wind

Network operators TenneT and TransnetBW have joined forces to build Germany's greatest power line to transport surplus of wind power from northern regions into the south, an important step in the country's attempt to shift away from nuclear. The objective is to build power lines to take renewable energy from where it is abundant and carry it to where it is needed.

Total to explore offshore gas field in Argentina

A consortium led by the French energy giant Total, with German firm Wintershall and Pan America Energy from Argentina will invest USD 1 billion (EUR 725.1m) to develop the Vega Pleyade offshore deep water natural gas field off the southern coast of Argentina.
