Nord Stream opened by Merkel and Medvedev

The Nord Stream project was officially opened on November 8, in the German town of Lubmin, by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Russian President Dimitry Medvedev. The new gas pipeline will deliver Siberian gas directly to German gas consumers under the Baltic Sea bypassing the transit countries such as Ukraine and Poland.

Chevron to begin exploratory drilling of shale gas in Poland

The Polish subsidiary of Chevron announced it began exploratory drilling to assess the shale gas potential in Poland. The well will be drilled in Horodysko hamlet, near Lesniowice, on the Grabowiec concessions in Lubelskie.

Poland might veto EU law on shale gas

During a conference on shale gas which took place on Wednesday, at Krakow, Maciej Olex-Szczytowski, an adviser to the Polish foreign minister on economics and business sustained that Poland would veto any European legislation which will threaten its energy policy.

Poland eyes shale gas production from 2014

According to the Polish Minister, Donald Tusk, Poland may start to produce commercial shale gas as soon as 2014, move that could reduce its energy dependence on Russia. Moreover, the Prime Minister is confident that by 2035, Poland will be able to supply its internal market from its own source.
