Scottish Power to invest 5.2 billion pounds in upgrading its power network
Energy giant ScottishPower has announced it plans to invest 5.2 billion pounds in upgrading its ageing power network. The energy firm has presented its proposals to Ofgem delineating the plans for expansion between 2015 and 2023. The investment would see more than 62 miles of power cables and 30,000 substations upgraded.

Scotland: Iberdrola has completed Europe’s largest onshore wind farm
ScottishPower Renewables, a subsidiary of the Spanish energy group Iberdrola Renovables, has announced it has completed the expansion of the Whitelee onshore wind farm in Scotland, located south of Glasgow. The capacity of the project has been enlarged from 322MW to 539MW installing 75 wind turbines manufactured by the French company Alstom.

India to become world’s largest coal importer in 2014
India could become the world's main importer of coal for power stations by the next year as China burned the fuel in 2012 at the slowest pace since 2008 and is trying to shift to green energy alternatives, meanwhile India is burning coal at the fastest pace in the last 30 years.

UK menaced by blackouts of power within 2 years
According to the energy watchdog Ofgem the risk of power blackouts in UK has doubled in the last year, as the country is facing an energy crunch which will cause an increase of the energy bills. The supply crisis is the result of Britain forcing old coal and oil plants to shut down supporting projects of new green wind farms and nuclear plants.

UK to pay offshore wind developers triple market electricity price
Under a subsidy program to boost renewable energy that by 2020, the UK is engaged to pay offshore wind developers triple the market price for electricity they generate at £155 per megawatt-hour, move that will cost consumers 7 .6 billion pounds ($11.6 billion) a year.
