U.S. crude oil hit its eight consecutive week of gains on Friday on weaker oil rail shipments from the growing Bakken shale basin in North Dakota. Brent oil posted moderate gains but settled the week lower, dragged down by an outlook for dipping demand in China and another for slow European growth due to escalating unrests in Ukraine.

Brent oil futures dropped on Thursday, dragged down by escalating turmoil in Ukraine that slashed the global risk appetite. U.S. oil futures also registered a decline, but losses were offset by figures showing the fourth consecutive weekly decline in oil stocks at WTI benchmark delivery point at Cushing, Oklahoma.
