Crude oil futures fell on Friday, halting an eight-day hike, as the IEA cut its oil growth demand forecast for the six consecutive month due to a weak world economy, the fall being limited by strong Chinese oil demand and political tensions over Iran.

Brent crude oil futures opened Thursday’s session above $117 a barrel on hopes of demand growth revival as Greece inches closer to getting its debt crisis under control and Iran’s new threats to cut off oil supplies to Europe. Front-month Brent added 61 cents to $117.81 a barrel by 1014 GMT, rising for an eighth straight day.

Brent crude futures increased above $116 per barrel settling to a six-month high on Tuesday following a cold spell in Europe and supply tensions following threats from Iran to put embargo on oil exports to European states which overshadowed fears that Greece’s debt was aggravating.
