Daily: European power forwards hit new lows

Brent and U.S. crude oil futures climbed on Monday as gasoline futures rallied while the storm-ravaged East Coast continued to grapple with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Brent December crude jumped $2.05, or 1.94 percent, to settle at $107.73 a barrel, having traded from $104.76 to $108.18, while U.S. December crude climbed 79 cents, or 0.93 percent, to settle at $85.65 a barrel, after declining to $84.34, hitting $85.88 in post-settlement trading.

Daily: European spot power recovers after holidays

Brent and U.S. crude futures declined more than 2 percent on worries about fuel shortages in the U.S. Northeast after Hurricane Sandy began to ease and with the stronger dollar applying pressure to dollar-denominated oil. Meanwhile, Brent December crude dropped by $2.49, 2.3 percent, to settle at $105.68 a barrel, having traded from $105.51 and $108.80, while U.S. December crude fell $2.23, or 2.56 percent, to settle at $84.86 a barrel, having traded from $84.66 to $87.24.
