Crude oil prices climbed to a six-week high on Monday as a slow return of production in the U.S. Gulf outweighs some bearish notes set by the OPEC. The producer’s group recently cut their demand growth outlook for the fourth quarter due to the impact of the Delta variant. Hence, Brent crude increased by 0.8% to settle at $73.51 a barrel. U.S. WTI crude rose by 1% to close at $70.45 a barrel.

The European Union's carbon border tax, to enter into effect in five years, was conceived with the idea of leveling the playing field for European industrial producers and importers who manufacture their goods in much laxer emissions-related regulatory frameworks. But the border tax could have a welcomed side effect for Brussels: it could have a more devastating effect on Russia's economy than sanctions.

The hydrogen will be certified using green hydrogen guarantees of origin (GOOs) under the proposed Certifhy scheme, which will require the producer to have GOOs for the electricity and for its production facility to be certified, the firm said. It expects Norwegian TSO Statnett will be the issuing body for the GOOs.

The European policy of carbon neutrality will inevitably lead to a decline in direct supplies of Russian natural gas and affect derived revenues by 2050, the department head of Gazprom Export, the export arm of Russia’s top gas producer Gazprom, Sergey Komlev said in an interview with Gazprom’s in-house magazine, adding that Russia can maintain its export positions on the European market using ‘blue hydrogen’ deliveries.
