Daily: European coal prices fall on warm weather outlook

Brent crude oil futures increased on Tuesday, touching the highest level in 2014, since oil supply continued to fall in Libya and South Soudan rebels attacked a key oil town, and because of the protests in Venezuela which destabilized the situation. Meanwhile, U.S. crude oil futures boosted by more than $2 a barrel on Tuesday to attain a fresh four-month high on higher heating oil prices, encouraged by stronger demand amid cold weather.

Germany obtained the green light to issue free carbon permits for 2013

Germany, the strongest economy and biggest emitter of greenhouse gases in Europe, received on Wednesday the green light from the European Commission to begin the issuance of permits to industrial companies in the country, as part of the European Union's efforts to aid heavy industry compete with rivals in countries with less stringent environmental regulations.

USA: World’s largest solar plant is now fully operational

The Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System, the world's largest concentrated solar power plant has become fully operational last week. Ivanpah employs concentrated solar power (CSP), which uses hundreds of thousands of mirrors to reflect the sun toward a tower. This heats a boiler in the tower, which creates steam to drive turbines and make electricity.
