Total sells 25% stake in Tempa Rossa oil field

France-based multinational oil and gas company Total, has decided to sell a 25 % stake in the Tempa Rossa oil field, which is situated in the Basilicata region of southern Italy, to Mitsui E&P Italia. Total, which has discovered the Tempa Rossa oil field in 1989, and has operated the concession since 2002, will remain operator of Tempa Rossa with a 50% stake.

In 2012 CO2 levels second highest in 54 years

In 2012, concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere increased by the second highest amount since 1959, when modern monitoring began. According to Pieter Tans, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration scientist who leads the effort to track CO2 levels, carbon dioxide levels augmented by 2.67 parts per million in comparison to a year before, to total something like 395 parts per million.

Bulgaria withdraws from major project with Russia and Greece

Bulgaria's outgoing parliament has voted to abandon a 1 billion euro oil project meant to bring Russian oil to Greece via Bulgaria. A total of 115 lawmakers in the 240-seat legislature voted to scrap a 2007 agreement with Russia and Greece for the 280-kilometre pipeline, while twenty-five lawmakers voted against the move.

China: energy consumption increased 3.9% last year

According to a recent report released by the National Bureaus of Statistics the country used the equivalent of 3.62 billion tones of coal, corresponding to about 66,4% of the total energy consumed, at the same time as oil and natural gas made up something like 18.9% and 5.5%, respectively.

Ireland to create a fund for energy efficiency projects

Pat Rabbitte, the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, has announced on this week that the Government has approved his proposal to institute an Energy Efficiency Fund (EEF). The €35 million fund will lend cash to the public and commercial sectors for energy efficiency projects. The Irish Government expects the cash will be matched by the private sector to make a total of €70 million which will be accessible to interested businesses.
