Spain’s wind power sector

Wind was Spain's top electricity generator for the first six months of 2013. Spain has a vigorous and varied renewable energy portfolio that has considerably reduced its dependence on fossil fuels. Currently Spain imports more than 80% of its gas and coal for domestic use from abroad, making energy security a national precedence. Along with significant growth in solar energy and biofuels, wind energy has become a cornerstone of the Spanish renewable energy portfolio.

Gazprom increased its gas supplies to Europe

Last year, Gazprom increased by 16 % the supply of natural gas to Europe to 161.5 billion cubic meters, with Germany, Italy and the U.K. ledding the increase in gas imports from Russia. European customers such as Germany’s RWE AG and Italy’s Eni SpA obtained lower gas prices under their long-term supply contracts with Gazprom. Supplies to Italy increased by more than 60 %.

China, India, Japan and South Korea have reduced Iranian oil imports

Asia's main purchasers of Iranian crude oil have reduced imports by about 15 per cent in 2013, but imports may augment in coming months, on the rise of turmoil in Africa which menaces to tighten global oil supplies. Tough U.S. and EU sanctions have slashed exports from the OPEC member by more than half to about 1 million barrels per day (bpd).

Daily: European coal continued to skyrocket on record imports in Germany
