Russia’s oil output hits new record in 2012, to a new post-Soviet high of 10.37 million barrels per day due to an increase in production at Rosneft. Russia had established its previous post-Soviet record in 2011, when the production amounted to 10.28 million barrels per day. According to the International Energy Agency, Russia's oil output hit the highest level at 11.41 million bpd in 1988, when it was part of the former Soviet Union and it accounted about 90 % of total Soviet oil output. This new record confirms Russia as the biggest oil producer in the world.
