Oil prices were mitigated on Friday, following the decision of OPEC+ members to maintain the planned gradual increase in crude production, despite the new variant of Covid and reports of tapping into strategic reserves. As a result, Brent oil edged 0.3% up at $69.88 a barrel, while WTI crude slipped by 0.4% to $66.26 a barrel.

Norway oil firms raise 2022 investment forecasts

Oil prices retreated on Friday, on rumors of potential withdrawals from US strategic reserves and OPEC data suggesting a slowdown in demand growth for the end of 2021. As a result, Brent oil lost 0.8% at $82.17 a barrel and WTI crude fell by 1% to $80.79 a barrel.

Oil prices extended losses on Thursday, on previous news of an increase in US crude reserves. However, the market recovered as OPEC+ announced forecasts of a larger-than-expected drop in global stocks this year. Hence, Brent oil slipped by 0.3% to $84.32 a barrel and WTI crude edged 0.2% higher at $82.81 a barrel.
