Dutch top court gives the green light to RWE’s coal-fired plant

The German utility, RWE has been allowed to continue limited construction of a 1,560 MW coal-fired plant after Netherlands' highest administrative court on Friday dismissed a request from environmentalists who said the company should lay down work until it has the required permits.

E.ON announces drastic jobs cuts

Last week, E.ON, the largest power utility in Germany, announced its intention to cut up to 11, 000 jobs worldwide and reduce dividends after first-half profit plunged because of the increased costs following nuclear exit. That’s approximately 10 percent of jobs that will be affected by this drastic measure.

German utility RWE’s first half profit hit by nuclear exit

The German energy group, RWE said that its first-half net profit sharply plunged by 39% to €1.7 billion ($2.4 billion), amid supplementary costs related to the country’s decision to phase out nuclear power and a tax on nuclear fuel.
