The French energy major Total will appeal against the French government’s decision in October this year to cancel its license for the exploration of shale gas in Montelimar, in the south of France, as Total chief executive Christophe de Margerie said.

Total makes a major discovery in the Barents Sea
Total EP Norge AS, operator of production license 535,along with its partners Rocksource, Det Norske and North Energy has announced a gas discovery on the Norvarg prospect in the Barents Sea. This is Norway’s second large gas discovery in the area this year.

Russian government seeks offshore oil spill funds
The Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin proposed on Wednesday a bill that would require the Russian companies engaged in the exploration of crude seeking to obtain offshore extraction licenses, to set apart financial reserves which could be used in case of an eventual oil spill.
