DEME, Herrenknecht to make special drill for French offshore wind project

Belgium-based DEME Offshore and German tunnel boring machines maker Herrenknecht AG have signed an agreement to manufacture a sub-sea drill that will be used at the site of the 480-MW Saint-Nazaire offshore wind project off the coast of France.

Uniper power plant in Gelsenkirchen-Scholven: Groundbreaking ceremony for new gas and steam plant

Uniper has begun construction of two new gas turbines and a steam boiler at the Scholven power plant site after the Münster district government granted approval before Christmas. The new gas and steam plant is to replace the existing plants in the future. The conversion of the site to operate with natural gas will not only massively reduce the emission of climate-damaging substances such as CO2. Also, the noise impact from the plant itself and from fuel supply trucks will be significantly reduced, as the gas will be delivered by pipeline.

Smolensk unit 3 gets licence extension

Russian regulator Rostechnadzor has issued a 15-year operating licence extension for unit 3 of the Smolensk nuclear power plant, the last of three RBMK-1000 reactors at the site in western Russia. The move means the whole plant has permission to operate for a total of 45 years.
