Coal consumption keeps growing in China
China is dealing with a big air quality problem, so recently the Government has announced that they will reduce their coal consumption share from its current 67 percent to 65 percent by 2017. China intends to convert coal in syntethic gas, but this will result in more carbon dioxide emissions released because converting coal to make synthetic gas and then combusting the gas to make electricity will double the amount of carbon dioxide emissions released in the atmosphere.

China expected to install more solar than previously thought
China is on the way to install a record of 12,000 MW of solar panels in 2014, according to a report released by the Chinese Bureau of Energy. This includes 8, 000 MW of distributed PV generation and 4,000 MW in the ground-mount segment.

China to set a cap on its CO2 emissions by 2016
The world's biggest producer of carbon dioxide intends to set a cap on its greenhouse gas emissions for the first time. China is planning an absolute emissions cap for the period 2016-2020, and is also looking at emissions targets for 2030 and 2050.

China’s power generation capacity to double by 2030
China is likely to more than double its generation capacity by 2030, with half of all new plants powered by renewable sources including large hydro, while coal will remain the most important fuel. China’s total power generating capacity would almost double by 2030 to 2.7 terawatts.
